The EOS 5D Mark III features the latest DIGIC 5+ image processor, which produces noticeably faster image processing, start-up and image review times than the 3-year old 5D Me II (as you'd expect), and better noise reduction in high-ISO images (jump to the Image Quality page for ISO samples). DIGIC 5+ also allows the 5D Mark III to shoot a lot faster than the previous 5D model, obtaining a speed of 6fps for up to an incredible 16,000 full-sized JPEGs with a UDMA 7 (Ultra Direct Memory Access) Compact Flash memory card or 18 RAW images (the 5D could only shoot at 3.9fps)

You can select up to three different AF point selection methods corresponding to whether you hold the camera in a landscape orientation, portrait with the grip up, or portrait with the grip down orientation. The processor offers a number of advantages including in-camera Chromatic Aberration Correction that removes colour fringing and halos around high contrast edges, thus improving overall image quality and maximising the performance of Canon lenses

go to manual focus?(which sucks,my eyes aint so good) maybe try the micro adjustment on the camera?i have to hire lens which means i cant recalibrate the lens. A few years ago, Nikon had to change their management to get the company on track again, and the company has since improved bringing some absolutely killer products on the market starting in 2007

Cons: Kudos to Canon for creating the finest manual focus digital camera ever designed!!! Oh wait--you bought it as an autofocus camera? Well, tough luck. In low light circumstances and when you have to rapidly change AF points to change composition you get lost in the viewfinder trying to find the AF point

The 22-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark III offers new autofocusing, metering and sensor technology and incorporates feedback from professional users to take this legacy to an entirely new level. I shot my first wedding without that ability last week and wanted to call Canon to complain so badly! I wish I could talk to the developers and tell them to LOOK AT THE NIKON D7000'S FUNCTIONS! That said, my only regret is that I waited so long to upgrade, or that I didn't start with the Mark 5D line from the beginning

Ron Martinsen's Photography Blog: FAIL: Nikon D800 Live View vs Canon 5D Mark III

I have not been happy with my Nikon D7000, 2 years old and I had to replace the auto-focus switch and still have issues with it not auto- focusing, I was ready to bite the bullet and go to the D800, the 4 FPS, kind of disappointed me. I like Canon and Fujifilm too! I wrote this article to raise awareness of what I believe to be a bug that limits the usability of the D800, not to bash it

Existing Canon EOS 5D Mark II users may find it takes a little getting used to as it reacts in a similar way to centre-weighted metering and puts greater emphasis on the subject under the active AF point. This is a big improvement on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, which has nine user selectable AF points and six assist points, giving a total of 15.Buying GuideBest DSLR: top cameras by price and brandOf these 61 points, 41 are cross-type and five are dual cross-type points, which is good news for accuracy

And though it seems clear that the D3x's 24.5-megapixel sensor could go to higher ISO settings, the Canon 5D Mark II can go two stops higher and still capture reasonable detail in low light. Many of the other features that debuted on the Canon 50D are included in the 5D Mark II, but one major new feature that probably should have made it into the 50D makes its stand instead in the 5D Mark II: HD video capture

With an expanded light sensitivity range from 50-25,600, the 5D Mark II does an excellent job of keeping noise levels (and noise reduction softening) to a minimum. Control layout is almost exactly the same, both weigh about 1.8 pounds (body only without battery) and the 5D Mark II measures only a fraction of an inch larger

The redesigned grip offers easy holding when shooting or carrying the camera, while the rubber skin coating has been engineered for all day comfort in your hand and also coats the camera's card slot cover

Sound is recorded either through the camera's built-in microphone or through an external microphone connected to the camera's microphone input terminal. The analog output from the image sensor is converted into a digital signal via 14-bit conversion instead of the previously used 12-bit conversion, resulting in significantly finer tonal gradation for better prints

Exposure Simulation: This makes it possible to see a live histogram even in an automatic exposure mode, like P, Tv or Av, before video recording begins. Still image capture during movie recording is not the same thing as grabbing a frame from the movie footage; instead, the still image(s) are recorded as separate files (either JPEG or .CR2) and stored on the memory card the same way as other still images

The 5D II has mushy buttons that activate at some indeterminate point. In use, the 5D II's viewfinder is massively larger than the tunnel-like crop bodies. I'll dial-in -0.7 if I'm shooting colorful things in interesting light with highlight optimization (Highlight Tone Priority) OFF, otherwise, 0.0 usually looks best. Poke in a card that's been shot on Nikon, and the 5D Mark II starts recording into the last Nikon folder, numbering its files just after the last Nikon shot! If the 5D Mark II were smarter, it would create a new folder for itself, and number from wherever it last left off
