Sure, it will work, but six months from now when you change the ip.addr of the CAS server, no one will remember that there is a HOSTS file on the TMG until AFTER stuff breaks in a most craptastic fashion. Not needed in my setup as the TMG is domain joined and the access rule to permit all internal was already there, but wrong of me to assume everyone would follow my build exactly

I think this may have something to do with forms based authentication (though I always thought that it went back to basic if specific User Agent strings were provided). So how do we enable Exchange to use these services? If you are planning to do a very simple configuration and do not care about external Autodiscover access, you do not need to use a Unified Communication Certificate

Figure 3 When you run the Exchange BPA, make sure you only run the test on the Client Access Server so that you do not waste time re-running the scan on the Mailbox and Hub Transport Server. What is really odd about all the SANs (subject alternative names) on the certificate is that only Vista clients and Windows 2008 clients can make use of the SANs

Reply jumpman23 says June 22, 2015 at 10:09 pm Hi Paul, Ive fallen into the same trap and moved mailboxes to a new DB (DB01)on a new server with the CAS role on and when I shut down the old server that has the CAS and MB role on, users lose access. The FQDN used to access the client access server array, not necessarily the FQDN of the CAS array but more likely the FQDN of your WLB or HwLB array, should be on the certificate. No processing is performed of mailbox data by the CAS; all it does is to send on client requests to connect to the mailbox server that hosts the currently active copy of their mailboxes via HTTPS (no MAPI RPCs). If you set the FQDN for every SCP in your environment to use a common FQDN, the server that FQDN is set to will be getting hammered with all the Autodiscover requests depending on Netmask Ordering option in DNS talked about below. To understand Autodiscover Site Affinity, we must first understand how the Autodiscover Service works internally within the organization for domain joined Outlook 2007 clients

But if the mailbox lives on a server that only hosts the mailbox role, any CAS server will be chosen which seems at random in order to establish the connction. Further the architectural changes now facilitate internal and external namespaces for Outlook Anywhere, hence avoiding the need to use the external firewall or load balancer to deploy split-brain DNS or deal with all Outlook clients during MAPI connectivity

Invalid IP address or configuration issue: In this scenario, Lync was able to resolve the Autodiscover DNS values but was unable to contact the site due to invalid IP address or reverse proxy configuration. Invalid Windows Credentials: User is logged in to windows using different credentials than normal user account (like admin account) due to which either Lync is unable to authenticate against EWS service OR Proxy server is unable to authenticate on behalf of user

Exchange Server 2010 Client Access Server Arrays

You can deploy single Mailbox servers and run them in production and then later create a DAG and add those servers as members of the DAG, again it is a seamless change. Reply AKhil Chopra says July 14, 2013 at 11:52 pm thanks paul But when we will switch our site to DR then the cassary will remain same with switched databases

If the client does first attempt to connect via RPC (over TCP) due to being able to successfully resolve the CAS array object FQDN there could be a significant delay before the client falls back to attempt an HTTPS connection to the Outlook Anywhere proxy URL. Easy! Hopefully this article has been helpful in addressing some of the CAS array object misconceptions and will go a long ways towards helping everyone move towards a healthy Exchange Server 2010 migration

EAC is an evolution of ECP (Exchange Control Panel), which contains much of the same functionality of EMC except now it is web based and has a pretty awesome GUI (in my opinion). Basically, if something crashes within Exchange 2013 Preview, the logs and events will be uploaded to the Exchange Team at Microsoft via HTTPS (SSL based, of course) and then analyzed
