Any advice? Thanks againReply Roger Perkin says August 21, 2014 at 11:24 pm If you have followed my post through then I can only think it is a license issue on your ESXi server or a setting wrong somewhere. When not designing, building and troubleshooting networks, he can be found studying for his CCIE, kite surfing, cycling and spending time with his family

Note: In my personal opinion, it is much quicker and more efficient to re-install ESXi and apply your configurations using either a scripted deployment such as kickstart or a combination along with post configuration scripts. Having said that, if you are running free ESXi in a small shop or in a home lab and wish to backup your ESXi host configurations, you can still do so by leveraging a neat little tool called vim-cmd found within the ESXi Shell

If you are going to use this tool to replicate configs to other hosts then make sure your source host does not have any VMs on it, nor is it connected to a vCentre. As for creating and deploying ESXi hosts, once you have the host on the network you can join it to your vCenter and apply a host profile to cover your additional config

Note: If this box is grayed out, it means that your physical CPU does not supported Intel VT-x + EPT or AMD-V + RVI which is required to run VHV OR that you are not using Virtual Hardware 9. Now trying to script the same steps from a Packer build server and upload the image to ESX 5.1, the vhv.enable flag is being stripped from my .vmx! Everything looks good before the upload with ovftool 4.0, but when I check the contents on the ESX server the settings are gone

Am I correct that VSphere is different from VSphere HyperVisor? Love your article, you made some very important points
