In each store, whether small or cavernous, the same template exists: near the register, which might as well be an altar, are small jumbles of merchandise such as headbands, nail polish, lip gloss, conditioner bags for perms, rat-tail combs, socks, and rollers. But as the sound got louder, grew from a deep rumble to a more distinct hum, out of his body and to his ear, it took shape and he was able to picture the planes above

Also Try Ivo Andric (he is a Nobel prize winner for literature in 1961 and donated his money to libraries of Bosnia and Herzegovina.) He was a true Yugoslav, born to Croatian parents in Bosnia but lived his adult life in Serbia and considered himself a Serb. I have not read his Rings of Saturn, but would highly recommend his novel Austerlitz which is one of the most beautiful and moving novels I have ever read

It is very useful for many papers and is a VERY important quotation! Chapter 25 (towards the end) "The thing with kids is, if they want to grab for the gold ring, you have to let them do it, and not say anything. If they fall off, they fall off, but it's bad if you say anything to them." This occurs while Holden is watching Phoebe ride the carousel in Central Park and fears Phoebe will fall off her house while reaching for a gold..

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my soulful cries? Does my haughtiness offend you? Don't you take it awful hard 'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines Diggin' in my own backyard
