How To Take Ownership of Files or Folders or an Entire Hard Drive
apparently when i connected the hard drive with all the above shown cables attached to it to my lap top via the usb cable, the laptop does not even recognize it so there is nothing there for me to access so i can get the files out of it. How likely is this? If so, then what? I have taken ownership of quite a few hard drives in the past, but have yet to come across a machine asking me that question
trying to downgrade to XP my laptop (COMPAQ Presario V6000) that came with Vista Home Premium, I was reading your guide, it was cool, but I Kept looking for more info, and read another source even easier, I just had to go into my Bios and DISABLED the NATIVE SATA CONTROL which was ENABLED and thats all I had to do, my system would detect the Hard drive right away. External hard drive not recognized - Computer Shopper Forums
If it?s still not being recognized, Maxtor has a free utility called PowerMax (available at www.maxtor.com) that lets you run various tests on your drive till it identifies the problem. I need to turn my hard drive on and off about 30 times before it's finally recognised (this takes about 45 mins!), and even then it sometimes crashes! It's driving me crazy
What is an External Hard Drive? (with pictures)
I did like you said and re-installed everything onto the external but when I opened the game it let me know that all of my EPs except Seasons had been uninstalled and if I continued my families in college will be aged to adult and all other families will be moved to the family bin...So of course I exited but I spent ALL day installing all of the games and they are listed on in my ext. My experience is that when your computer starts running slow, you've probably just got too much stuff on it, so moving some of the stuff to the external could very well perk up the performance

Windows Unable to Format External Hard Drive - Windows 7 Help Forums
If you can get by without recovering whatever data is on it I'd remove the Active flag and partitions, then repartition it and use the Quick Format option. If there's enough left on that partition (which currently shows RAW) for PW to figure out what it once was, and then to see if the file system can be recovered, you might just luck out
Windows 7 unable to read external drive formatted FAT32 - Windows 7 Help Forums
For a flash drive or memory card you would find that under removable storage while an external hard drive will be mixed in along with the internal drives. As far as having 7 recognise the Fat 32 volume on any external drive when first plugged in you would take a fast trip into the Disk Management tool and use the Add New Volume wizard which will likely be seen first when going to right click on the drive to use the change drive letter option
