All of us were very excited, and as we looked out the shuttle windows and down into the huge canyon, there were several exclamations of "Wow", and "Are we going all the way down there?" It was hard to believe that we were finally going to get to live our dream, and when we arrived at the trailhead, I started thinking back on all the time and preparation that had gone into this hike already. The fact that the floor of the bridge (which is about five feet wide) is covered with a mat, which I assume is for the mules, really helped to ease their fear of heights

The service I received from Carol at the office was excellent as she kept me informed with up to the minute information regarding arrival time and even made sure to let me know the of the weather forecast. We had a wonderful time, and highly recommended this tour - but ask for Robin to be your guide! Visited November 2011 Was this review helpful? Yes 2 Problem with this review? The two main trails to the Colorado River are the Bright Angel and the South Kaibab; this latter connects with the North Kaibab route which follows Bright Angel Canyon to the north rim. Ninety percent of tourists see only the south rim of the Grand Canyon, since it is easily accessible and the main road (AZ 64) parallels the canyon edge for some distance (see map) - here there is every conceivable facility, many superb overlooks and a choice of hiking trails

There is not much else in this area so if you are thinking that you're just going to go see the Grand Canyon, take a few pictures and walk around a little, you might only want to stay one night. But if camping is not a option for you, El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Kachina Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge, Yavapai Lodge and Phantom Ranch's famous cabins are all excellent options

Which order would you recommend we travel? Is the end of September a good time to visit or should we come in October? Will there be Park Ranger activities still being offered in the Fall or do they end September 7 which I am seeing on the GC website. Thank you! 3 days ago Problem with this question? Few people walk the entire route, but Tonto intersects many other paths allowing for hikes along certain sections; the main junctions are with the South Bass, Boucher, Hermit, Bright Angel, South Kaibab, Grandview and New Hance trails. Shoshone Point 1 level One of the least-visited of the named overlooks of the South Rim, Shoshone Point may be reached by an unpaved forest road though vehicular access requires special permission from the NPS

However, if you have more time than do the South Rim, it is truly amazing! Reply JoAnna says: April 30, 2012 at 2:17 pm Thanks for your feedback about this part of the Grand Canyon. So, yes, most tour operators only run trips to the South Rim and West Rim, and, out of those two options, only the South Rim is part of the national park

However, late summer thunderstorms or early winter snow storms have been known to take place during this transition season, making for sudden changes to the weather. This weather variety includes cold winters and mild pleasant summers, moderate humidity, and considerable diurnal temperature changes at the higher elevations, with hot and drier summers at the bottom of the Grand Canyon along with cool damp winters

During the daylight hours, be sure to take in all the sights, browse the visitor centers, stroll the Rim Trail or hike a bit down into the Canyon on Bright Angel or South Kaibab Trails, attend free ranger talks, and grab a bite to eat at one of the lodges or in the Marketplace Cafe. Because Grand Canyon Village at the South Rim is the most developed of the three rim areas, with most of the essential services you might need, like an ATM, pet kennel, post office, clinic, food, chapel, day care and National Park departments, you'll find plenty of things to do from dawn 'til dusk

The forested rims are high enough to receive winter snowfall, but along the Colorado River in the Inner Gorge, temperatures are similar to those found in Tucson and other low elevation desert locations in Arizona. Conditions in the Grand Canyon region are generally dry, but substantial precipitation occurs twice annually, during seasonal pattern shifts in winter and in late summer
