I have two Western Digital external hard drives for backing up my computer and they have been great! But WD makes other devices including media streaming devices, which they have had a lot of success with. I have my house fully wired, with a surround sound system in my family room for music and TV viewing, but also drive music throughout the house as well as outdoors
So in the end, I have ended up actually selling both my Apple TV 3 and WD TV Live and I now in the process of setting up an old laptop with Linux (Ubuntu or Mint) and puting XBMC on it. I was able to screen mirror with my Samsung devices with no problem, and play any sort of file, although sometimes it did have trouble with subtitle files even though they were in the same folder. The WDTV player would always play the first file I selected but when I came to selecting a subsequent file the orange arrow would keep spinning around and never play
