Then dropped the windows group and created it again with the same name from Server Manager (on a Windows 2008 R2 box)The other way that this issue can be reproduced is by dropping the windows user and adding it back again. What I did not understand is even if a user is in a differnt Active Directory group that is Granted access, the Deny access in the other AD group takes precedence

And starting in Denali, for both state 2 and 5, this error can happen if you specify the correct username and password for a contained database user, but the wrong (or no) database. This can also happen if you use a SQL login to connect to a contained database that has a contained user with the same name but a different password (one of several reasons this is not recommended)

SQL server and SQL agent will not start on both nodes in Active to Active SQL 2005 SP3 x64 Enterprise cluster on Windows 2008 x64 after applying KB958644

Try increasing it (perhaps to 120 seconds for now) and then start the service I will have a look around to try and find this setting and give this a go. This suggests to me that SQL Server has not gotten to point where it is ready for use (I am not even sure that it finished recovering msdb)My recollection of the out of the box configuration of SQL Server clustering is that the cluster resource needs to make a positive response to a "ping" (which for SQL Server I think is something like SELECT @@VERSION)

Set password for SQL Server 2008 R2 Account - Server Fault

Worry about keeping your box patched and well-secured, don't worry that if someone hacks your box and has privileged credentials, that they might be able to see your database. I am worried that (hopefully not) someone who shouldn't be accessing the server does so, and can then easily connect to SQL Server Management Studio without even being asked for a password, and then have access to the databases

sql server - Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11 - Database Administrators Stack Exchange

  http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/59144/error-18456-severity-14-state-11
After installation I went to connect with SSMS as myself and my login was denied with the error in the error log: Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11 I get this when I try to connect in RDP session on the new server, when I try to connect from my machine, and when I try to connect from yet another server in our environment. One possible cause of this error is when the Windows user has access to SQL Server as a member of the local administrators group, but Windows is not providing administrator credentials

SQL Server Error 18456 - What is it and how do you resolve it?

  http://www.helpdesksoftware.biz/sql-server-error-18456/
If you are trying to log in using Windows Authentication and you receive Error 18456, you should login using SQL SA credentials and go to Security and verify that your Active Directory Windows account is associated with your SQL login. If you are the administrator of the SQL hosting server ( Windows Server 2008 R2 in our example), you can check the Event Viewer or more details regarding Error 18456

An alternative to configuring a named instance to listen on a fixed port is to create an exception in the firewall for a SQL Server program such as sqlservr.exe (for the Database Engine). Added exceptions in the firewalls of the SQL server (Win2k8r2 SQL 2008r2 Ent.) and the Web server (IIS7 Win2k8r3) for all ports, services and applications too

SQL Server Express 2008 R2 Memory Issues - Stack Overflow

Here's the server stats: It's a Rackspace Cloud Server Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 x64 Quad-Core AMD Opteron 2.34GHz 2GB RAM SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition with Advanced Services x64 Full text indexing is being used The website has been running good for a few months now, but all of a sudden I've been seeing errors related to SQL Server running out of memory. After I restart the service, the used memory drops back down to about 600MB used and very slowly climbs backup until the exceptions start showing up again

sql server - Login failed for user Error: 18456 State: 10 - Database Administrators Stack Exchange

  http://dba.stackexchange.com/questions/45418/login-failed-for-user-error-18456-state-10
You should also consider creating a new, separate login with the same permissions, and see if you intermittently get the same error with that other user as well - my guess this is an architectural problem in some way as opposed to a problem with just this user. Now, if user is a Windows login, perhaps you are somehow trying to authenticate as a Windows login without specifying the domain, or perhaps you are specifying the domain but the domain controller is unreliable or on an unreliable network connection

Video shows you the steps :) Below is a list of reasons and some brief explanation what to do: SQL Authentication not enabled: If you use SQL Login for the first time on SQL Server instance than very often error 18456 occurs because Windows Authentication (only) is set in Server properties (security section).
